Team Meet - 9/9/2010

A team meet was scheduled today, with a relatively poor attendance of 13 members. The main purpose of this meeting was to review the progress and to plan for the week ahead. But first, A.L.Kannan and K.Chidambaresan presented a small talk on the roll cage and it's design, since a few of the members who were not involved in its design had a few doubts pertaining to the same. The various loops, the 3D bend and the firewall were explained with the help of hand-drawn and PRO-E diagrams. K.Nikhil then gave a 5 minute description of his innovation, the Dual Steering. He reported that there was just the ANSYS modeling left for his design.

After the presentations, the progress made so far was reviewed. It was generally agreed that the past week's goals were left unfinished because of the Department Symposium (titled Deus Ex Machina 7), but it was made clear by the Captain and Vice Captain that the tasks for next week would have to be achieved with no room for excuses. The two members given the responsibility of designing the A-Arm, V.Surendhar and S.Nithin were also asked to report on their progress, with just the line diagram being completed. They reported that they were waiting for the Suspension team to give them the exact coordinates, with which the final design can be easily made. Their deadline for submission for fabrication was rescheduled to Tuesday, the 14th of September.

The jobs of fabrication of a Racing Seat and servicing the Gearbox was designated to two of the members, with them expected to finalise all the details by Monday, the 13th of September. Interestingly, due to the recurring instances of members missing the bi-weekly team meetings, the Captain and Vice Captain announced that a small fine of Rs.10 will be collected from every member who misses a team meet. We hope that the team will strive to make sure such a situation does not arise in the future!

Since the manufacturing process is about to start, regular updates with photos will commence. Please keep visiting the blog for the latest progress of Team Krieger.

Update- 31st August

The material for the roll cage has arrived, which were ordered from a shop in Mannady street, Broadway. The place where the 3D bending is to be given has been finalised. The Gearbox and Wheel Hubs have been purchased from Pudupet, corresponding to the designed dimensions. The design of the suspension system, mainly the front and rear wishbones or A-arms have started with a bang, resulting in a huge intellectual debate on which type of suspension to use. Ideas ranging from regular coil suspensions with double A arms to McPherson struts were discussed, with the final decision yet to be taken.

A team meeting was conducted on the 30th of August, with the following points discussed-
1. Status of progress
2. Finances
3. Sponsorship details
4. Status of obtaining various permission documents
5. Work to be done in the current week

We shall endeavor to keep you updated regularly.

Work done so far!

A team of five members, D.Karthikeyan, Gokul, Ashwin Kumar, Rajagopal,
K.Chidambaresan- attended a SAE General Workshop on Autombile construction in
Mumbai, on 19th and 20th July, 2010. They returned with a bigger arsenal of
knowledge, with better understanding of the vehicular setup and its
construction. Areas of focus were the Suspension systems, the Transmission
drive train and the Braking system.

The Engine order has been placed, with a lot of red tape involved before we
could sort out all the necessary documents. The Engine suppliers are M/S Lombardini
India Pvt. Ltd, who are based in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The Engine has a single
cylinder and weighs close to 30 Kg.

With the documentation part of the project coming to a close, the time for
manufacturing has drawn near. The material for the Roll Cage has been
placed, with the delivery expected any day now.
